End-User License Agreement (EULA)

This End-User License Agreement ('EULA') is a legal agreement between you and GameHaven ('we', 'us', 'our') for the use of the GameHaven mobile application ('App'). By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to be bound by the terms of this EULA and these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, do not download, install, or use the App.

This EULA is entered into between you and GameHaven only, and not with Apple Inc. ('Apple'). GameHaven, not Apple, is solely responsible for the App and its content. This EULA must comply with the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions. In the event of any conflict between this EULA and Apple's terms, Apple's terms shall prevail.

License Grant

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to download, install, and use the App on Apple-branded devices that you own or control, strictly in accordance with this EULA and the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions. This license does not allow you to use the App on any device you do not own or control, and you may not distribute or make the App available over a network where it could be used by multiple devices at the same time.

Restrictions

  • You may not copy, modify, or create derivative works of the App

  • You may not reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App

  • You may not rent, lease, lend, sell, or sublicense the App

  • You may not exploit bugs, cheats, or vulnerabilities in the App

  • You may not use the App for any unlawful or unauthorized purpose

  • You may not use automated systems or bots to interact with the App

  • You may not circumvent or attempt to circumvent content limits, paywalls, or premium feature restrictions

Auto-Renewable Subscriptions

GameHaven offers optional auto-renewable subscription plans that unlock premium features. By subscribing, you agree to the following terms:

Subscription Plans

  • GameHaven Premium (Monthly): $3.99 per month

  • GameHaven Premium (Annual): $34.99 per year

Actual prices may vary by region and currency. The price confirmed at the time of purchase on the App Store applies. Prices are displayed in your local currency on the subscription purchase screen.

Premium Features

  • Unlimited Multiplayer & Tournaments

  • Full Shop Access

  • Advanced Stats

  • Unlimited Trivia Questions with Fresh AI Content

  • Unlimited Rocket Blast Off Words with AI Generator

  • Unlimited Word Search, Crossword & Sudoku Puzzles

  • 2x Coin Earnings

Free Tier

Free users have access to all single-player games with content limits: a starter pool of 100 trivia questions, 80 Rocket Blast Off words, 2 word search puzzles per day, 2 crossword puzzles per day, and 2 Sudoku puzzles per day. When you reach a limit you can watch an optional short ad to keep playing, or upgrade to Premium for unlimited access. Free users may also buy basic avatars in the shop with earned coins. Online multiplayer, tournaments, the full cosmetics shop, advanced stats, and ad-free play require a premium subscription.

Billing & Renewal

Payment is charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase. Subscriptions automatically renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period. Your account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period at the rate of your selected plan. Subscription prices may change; you will be notified in advance of any price increase and must agree to the new price to continue.

Free Trial

We may offer a free trial period for new subscribers. If a free trial is offered, the specific duration will be displayed on the subscription purchase screen. If you do not cancel before the free trial ends, your subscription will automatically convert to a paid subscription at the plan price displayed at sign-up. Any unused portion of a free trial period will be forfeited when you purchase a subscription. Only one free trial is available per Apple ID. Premium subscriptions support Apple Family Sharing: an active subscription may be shared with the members of your Family Sharing group in accordance with Apple's terms.

Managing & Cancelling Subscriptions

You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time through your device's Settings > [Your Name] > Subscriptions, through the App Store app, or at apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period — you will retain access to premium features until then. No partial refunds are provided for unused portions of a subscription period.

Restore Purchases

If you reinstall the App or switch devices, you can restore your active subscription by tapping 'Restore Purchases' on the subscription screen. This verifies your subscription status with Apple and reactivates your premium access at no additional charge.

Refunds

All purchases are processed by Apple. Refund requests must be submitted through Apple's support at reportaproblem.apple.com. We do not process refunds directly. Apple's refund policies apply to all transactions.

Acceptable Use

  • GameHaven is provided for personal, non-commercial entertainment

  • You must not use the App to harass, bully, or harm other players

  • You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account

  • Display names must be appropriate, family-friendly, and inoffensive

  • Referral rewards are for genuine new-player referrals and require you to be 13 or older with an accurate date of birth — self-referral, fake accounts, false age information, or other abuse may result in forfeited rewards

Multiplayer Conduct

  • Treat all players with respect and good sportsmanship

  • Do not intentionally disconnect to avoid losses

  • Do not use external tools to gain unfair advantages

  • Offensive, discriminatory, or inappropriate behavior is prohibited

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate multiplayer conduct standards without prior notice or refund. Online matches can be private (invite-only) or public. When you join public matchmaking — including Quick Match, which pairs you automatically — you may be matched with players you do not know, and they will see your display name and avatar emoji. There is no free-form text chat between players; interaction is limited to gameplay. You may leave a match at any time, and we may suspend accounts that abuse public play.

User Content

You are solely responsible for your display name and any content you create within the App. We reserve the right to remove or modify content that violates our community standards without prior notice. The App includes automated content filtering, but we do not guarantee that all inappropriate content will be caught.

Account & Data

  • You may use GameHaven as a guest, sign in with Apple, or sign in with an email address and password (managed by Amazon Cognito)

  • Guest accounts store data locally on your device only

  • Signed-in accounts may sync data to our cloud servers via Amazon Web Services

  • You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from your Profile

  • Account deletion is permanent and irreversible — all cloud data will be immediately removed from our servers

  • We are not responsible for data loss caused by device failure or app removal

  • Subscription status is synced to the cloud for cross-device access when signed in

Age Requirement

GameHaven is intended for users of all ages. By using this App, you confirm that you meet the minimum age requirement set by Apple for your region, or that a parent or legal guardian has reviewed and consented to these terms on your behalf. Parents and guardians are responsible for monitoring their children's use of the App, including any in-app purchases made through the child's device. All in-app purchases respect Apple's Ask to Buy parental controls.

Intellectual Property

All content, graphics, game mechanics, sounds, AI-generated content, and design elements in GameHaven are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works from any part of the App without prior written permission. AI-generated content (trivia questions, words, puzzles) is provided for personal use within the App only.

Third-Party Services

The App uses Apple's Sign in with Apple, Apple's App Store and StoreKit for payment processing and subscription management, Apple's MultipeerConnectivity framework for same-network multiplayer, Apple's Game Center (optional, opportunistic — submits your total wins and lifetime coins earned to Apple-hosted leaderboards when you're signed into Game Center), and Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud services — including Amazon Cognito for email/password authentication, Amazon RDS for our database, and Amazon ECS for our PostgREST API — for cloud sync and cross-network online multiplayer. Your use of these services is subject to their respective terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for the practices, availability, or outages of third-party services. We use Google AdMob to show optional rewarded ads to players who are not Premium subscribers (non-personalized and child-directed — no IDFA, no cross-app tracking). No third-party analytics or tracking SDKs are used.

Disclaimer of Warranties

THE APP IS PROVIDED 'AS IS' AND 'AS AVAILABLE' WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE APP WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR FREE OF VIRUSES OR OTHER HARMFUL COMPONENTS. AI-GENERATED CONTENT IS PROVIDED FOR ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES AND MAY CONTAIN INACCURACIES.

Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL GAMEHAVEN OR ITS DEVELOPERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS OR REVENUES, WHETHER INCURRED DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, USE, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES, RESULTING FROM YOUR USE OF THE APP. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR THE APP OR SUBSCRIPTION IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM.

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless GameHaven and its developers from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses arising out of or in any way connected with your access to or use of the App, your violation of these terms, or your violation of any rights of another.

Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to GameHaven at any time, with or without cause, for violations of these terms or any other reason. Upon termination, your license to use the App is immediately revoked. You may stop using the App at any time by uninstalling it from your device and deleting your account. Termination does not entitle you to a refund of any subscription fees already paid. Active subscriptions must be cancelled separately through Apple. Coins, XP, and any unlocked cosmetic or boost items are virtual, have no monetary value, and cannot be purchased for cash, redeemed for cash, or transferred between accounts; any such items are non-refundable and are forfeited when your account is suspended, terminated, or deleted.

Apple-Specific Terms (Required)

You acknowledge and agree to the following with respect to Apple Inc. ('Apple'):

  • This EULA is between you and GameHaven only, not Apple. GameHaven, not Apple, is solely responsible for the App and its content

  • The license granted to you is limited to a non-transferable license to use the App on Apple-branded products that you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules set forth in the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions

  • Apple has no obligation whatsoever to furnish any maintenance or support services with respect to the App

  • In the event of any failure of the App to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any) for the App. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Apple has no other warranty obligation with respect to the App

  • Apple is not responsible for addressing any claims by you or any third party relating to the App or your possession and/or use of the App, including but not limited to: (a) product liability claims; (b) any claim that the App fails to conform to any applicable legal or regulatory requirement; and (c) claims arising under consumer protection, privacy, or similar legislation

  • In the event of any third-party claim that the App or your possession and use of the App infringes that third party's intellectual property rights, GameHaven, not Apple, will be solely responsible for the investigation, defense, settlement, and discharge of any such intellectual property infringement claim

  • Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of this EULA, and upon your acceptance of the terms and conditions of this EULA, Apple will have the right (and will be deemed to have accepted the right) to enforce this EULA against you as a third-party beneficiary thereof

  • You represent and warrant that: (i) you are not located in a country that is subject to a U.S. Government embargo, or that has been designated by the U.S. Government as a 'terrorist supporting' country; and (ii) you are not listed on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties

Dispute Resolution

Any dispute arising out of or relating to these terms or the App shall first be attempted to be resolved through good-faith negotiation by contacting us at the email below. If the dispute cannot be resolved informally within thirty (30) days, it shall be resolved through binding arbitration in accordance with applicable arbitration rules, except where prohibited by law. You agree to waive any right to participate in a class-action lawsuit or class-wide arbitration. Nothing in this section prevents you from bringing issues to the attention of federal, state, or local agencies, who may seek relief against us on your behalf. EU and UK residents retain the right to bring claims in their local courts as required by applicable consumer protection law.

Governing Law

These Terms of Service and EULA are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United States and the state in which we operate, without regard to conflict of law principles. If any provision of these terms conflicts with Apple's standard EULA or the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions, Apple's terms shall prevail to the extent required. EU and UK residents may also benefit from mandatory consumer protection provisions of their country of residence.

Severability

If any provision of these terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid by a court of competent jurisdiction, that provision shall be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary so that these terms shall otherwise remain in full force and effect and enforceable.

Entire Agreement

These Terms of Service, together with the Privacy Policy and any subscription terms presented at the time of purchase, constitute the entire agreement between you and GameHaven regarding the use of the App, and supersede all prior agreements, understandings, and communications, whether written or oral.

Online Multiplayer Operations

Match Time Limits

Every online match has a finite lifetime. 1v1 matches expire 24 hours after the most recent move (each move resets the timer); tournament-round matches expire 6 hours after creation so the bracket can advance. After expiration, an automated process marks the match abandoned and it stops appearing in browsers and friends' invite lists. You retain no further right to play an expired match.

Tournament Forfeit

If a tournament-round match expires before both players have submitted scores, the player who DID submit wins by forfeit. If neither player submitted, the match host (player 1) wins by default so the bracket can keep advancing. Forfeits count as completed matches for tournament-bracket purposes; they do not currently affect personal stats or rankings, but we may add this behavior in a future release and will update this section if we do.

Asynchronous Score-Based Play

Score-based online matches (trivia, crossword, word search, memory match, rocket blast off) are played asynchronously: the host plays alone and submits their score, then the guest plays whenever they like within the 24-hour window. There is no live opponent score during play. Once both players have submitted, the higher score wins (with ties resolved as a draw). You agree that match results are final once recorded.

Replay Data Retention

Online match rows (including board state for turn-based games, content blobs for score-based games, move history, scores, and timestamps) are retained on our AWS infrastructure for the lifetime of your account and may be used for support, dispute resolution, anti-cheat review, and aggregated quality metrics. When you delete your account via Profile > Delete account and data, all match rows associated with your user id are permanently removed.

Subscription Downgrade During Active Play

If your premium subscription expires while you have an active online match or tournament participation, your existing matches will continue normally until they finish or expire. You will, however, lose the ability to start new online matches or tournaments and lose access to AI-generated content until your subscription is renewed. Local Wi-Fi multiplayer and pass-and-play remain available regardless of subscription state.

Push Notifications & Data Locality

Push Notifications

When you grant push-notification permission, we may send alerts via Apple's Push Notification service for friend requests, match invites, completed asynchronous matches, and tournament forfeits. You can disable push notifications at any time in iOS Settings > Notifications > GameHaven; doing so does not affect any other app functionality.

AWS Data Locality

Your cloud-synced data and online multiplayer data are stored in Amazon Web Services data centers in the United States (us-east-1 region). If you are accessing GameHaven from outside the United States, including the European Economic Area or United Kingdom, your data will be transferred to, processed, and stored in the United States. By using GameHaven's online and cloud-sync features, you consent to this transfer. We rely on AWS's compliance posture (ISO 27001/27017/27018, SOC 1/2/3, GDPR-compatible standard contractual clauses) for the security of these transfers.

Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms of Service periodically. We will notify you of material changes by updating the 'Last updated' date below. Continued use of GameHaven after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised terms. If you do not agree to the revised terms, you must stop using the App and cancel any active subscriptions.

Information We Collect

Information You Provide

  • Display name and avatar emoji you choose

  • Apple ID information if you sign in with Apple (name, email — only what you authorize), or your email address if you sign in with email and password

  • Support requests, feedback, and conversation messages you submit through the app

Automatically Collected Information

  • Game statistics, scores, and match history

  • Device identifiers for same-network multiplayer sessions

  • Local network presence when using nearby (same-Wi-Fi) multiplayer

  • For online (cross-network) multiplayer: your display name, avatar emoji, and game moves are transmitted in real time to your opponent. Completed match records (host/guest names, scores, winner, timestamps) are retained on our servers for match history.

  • App usage data such as play time and game preferences (a small summary of your stats and recent games is also written to an on-device shared container so the optional home-screen widgets can display them; this widget data stays on your device)

  • Free-tier usage counters (e.g. daily puzzle count, questions answered)

Purchase & Subscription Information

  • Subscription status (active, expired, or cancelled)

  • Purchase history and transaction identifiers processed by Apple

  • Subscription plan type (monthly or annual) and renewal dates

  • We do NOT collect or store your payment card details — all payments are processed securely by Apple through the App Store

How We Use Your Information

  • To create and manage your player profile

  • To save and sync your game progress across devices

  • To enable multiplayer gameplay and tournaments

  • To display achievements and track your progress

  • To manage your subscription status and premium feature access

  • To enforce free-tier content limits (daily puzzles, question banks)

  • To improve app performance and fix bugs

  • We do NOT use your data for advertising, profiling, or marketing purposes

Data Storage & Processing

Your game data is stored locally on your device by default. If you sign in (with Apple or with an email and password) and enable cloud sync, your data is transmitted to and stored on servers provided by Amazon Web Services, Inc. (AWS), our cloud infrastructure provider. AWS processes data on our behalf and is contractually obligated to protect your information.

Data may be stored on servers located in the United States. By using cloud sync, you consent to the transfer of your data to the United States. We rely on AWS's data processing agreement and industry-standard security measures (including encryption in transit and at rest) to help protect your data during international transfers.

Third-Party Services

Apple (App Store, StoreKit, Sign In & Game Center)

We use Apple's Sign in with Apple as one optional authentication method. Apple provides us only the information you authorize (name, email). All in-app purchases and subscriptions are processed entirely by Apple through StoreKit and the App Store. Apple collects payment and transaction data subject to Apple's Privacy Policy (apple.com/privacy). We do not have access to your payment method details. We do NOT use any third-party payment processors or analytics SDKs. For advertising we use only Google AdMob, to show optional rewarded ads to players who are not Premium subscribers — configured for non-personalized, child-directed delivery (no IDFA, no cross-app tracking); see "Data Sharing & Sale" below. If you are signed into Apple Game Center, we submit two integer counters to your Game Center profile — your total wins and your lifetime coins earned — which Apple uses to populate the leaderboards inside the Game Center overlay. Game Center submissions are governed by Apple's Game Center privacy policy (apple.com/legal/privacy/data/en/game-center); we do not see your Game Center profile or social graph.

Amazon Web Services (Cloud Infrastructure & Authentication)

When cloud sync is enabled, your profile, game stats, match history, subscription status, saved games, and online multiplayer match data are stored using Amazon Web Services (AWS). Email and password authentication is handled by Amazon Cognito (an AWS service); your password is never sent or stored in plaintext — Cognito uses the Secure Remote Password (SRP) protocol. See AWS's privacy notice at aws.amazon.com/privacy.

Same-Network Multiplayer (MultipeerConnectivity)

Same-network multiplayer uses Apple's MultipeerConnectivity framework to discover nearby players on the same Wi-Fi or Bluetooth network. Device names and game data are exchanged peer-to-peer during active sessions only and are not persisted on our servers or on other players' devices.

Cross-Network Online Multiplayer

Online multiplayer matches (premium feature) route through our AWS infrastructure rather than peer-to-peer. Your display name, avatar emoji, and individual moves are transmitted to the AWS server and visible to your opponent for the duration of the match. You can either create a private match and invite a specific friend (private matches are invite-only and are not listed publicly), or join public matchmaking. In public matchmaking your display name and avatar emoji are shown to other signed-in players in an in-app match browser, and the Quick Match option may automatically pair you with another player you have not met. We do not provide free-form text chat between players — only your display name, avatar emoji, and in-game moves are shared. After a match completes, a record (player names, scores, winner, timestamps) is retained for your match history; raw move data and board state for that match are also retained on AWS for replay and dispute resolution.

Data Sharing & Sale

We do NOT sell, rent, or trade your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing. To show optional rewarded ads to players who are not Premium subscribers, we integrate Google AdMob, configured for non-personalized, child-directed delivery: AdMob does not use your data to target ads, does not use the Advertising Identifier (IDFA), and does not track you across apps. We do not integrate any third-party analytics or attribution SDKs, and we do not participate in data broker arrangements. Apart from AdMob (for ad delivery only) and our service providers (Apple and Amazon Web Services), your data is not shared.

Tracking & App Tracking Transparency

GameHaven does NOT track you across other companies' apps or websites. We do not use the Advertising Identifier (IDFA), and we do not participate in any cross-app tracking, retargeting, or targeted advertising programs. We fully comply with Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) framework — we will never request tracking permission because we do not track. Our App Store Privacy Nutrition Label accurately reflects that we collect no data used to track you.

Children's Privacy (COPPA Compliance)

GameHaven is designed to be family-friendly and suitable for all ages. We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the EU's General Data Protection Regulation as it applies to children (GDPR Article 8), and applicable international children's privacy laws.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the applicable age of digital consent in your jurisdiction) without verifiable parental consent.

Any ads shown to players who are not Premium subscribers are non-personalized and child-directed — they involve no behavioral profiling and no Advertising Identifier (IDFA). The app does not link to social media and does not enable unrestricted communication between users. All in-app purchases are processed through Apple's parental controls system (Ask to Buy).

If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided personal information without your consent, please contact us at the email below. We will promptly investigate and delete any such information from our servers as soon as reasonably practicable after verification.

Your Rights & Choices

  • Access: View all your personal data through your Profile at any time

  • Correction: Modify your display name and avatar at any time

  • Deletion: Delete your account and ALL associated data via Profile > Delete Account & Data — this is permanent and irreversible

  • Portability: Your game data is visible in your Profile and stored locally on your device

  • Revocation: Revoke Sign in with Apple access via iOS Settings > Apple ID > Sign-In & Security. For email/password accounts, use Profile > Delete Account & Data to fully remove your Amazon Cognito user record and cloud data.

  • Opt-out: Use the app as a guest without creating a cloud account — no personal data leaves your device

  • Subscription management: Cancel or change subscriptions via iOS Settings > [Your Name] > Subscriptions or directly at apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions

California Residents (CCPA/CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA) to:

  • Know what personal information we collect, use, and disclose

  • Request deletion of your personal information

  • Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information — we do NOT sell or share personal information

  • Not be discriminated against for exercising your privacy rights

  • Correct inaccurate personal information we hold about you

  • Limit the use and disclosure of sensitive personal information — we only use it for the purposes described in this policy

To exercise these rights, use the in-app deletion feature or contact us at the email below. We will respond to verifiable consumer requests within the timeframe required by the CCPA (generally 45 days). We will not charge a fee for processing your request unless it is manifestly unfounded or excessive.

European Residents (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA) or the United Kingdom, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and UK GDPR apply. Our legal bases for processing your data are:

  • Consent — when you sign in and enable cloud sync

  • Performance of a contract — to provide the game services and manage your subscription

  • Legitimate interest — to improve the app and prevent abuse

You have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict processing, object to processing, and port your data. You may withdraw consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing based on consent before withdrawal. You may also lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority (e.g. the ICO in the UK, CNIL in France). For data transfers outside the EEA, we rely on our service providers' Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) and data processing agreements.

Data Retention

Local data is retained on your device for as long as the app is installed. Cloud data is retained for as long as you maintain an active account. Subscription and purchase records are retained as long as required by applicable tax and accounting law (typically 3–7 years).

When you delete your account, all cloud data — including your profile, game stats, match history, subscription records, and saved games — is permanently and immediately removed from our servers. This action is irreversible. Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data from your device.

Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including encrypted data transmission (TLS 1.2+), authentication via Apple Sign In (token-based) or Amazon Cognito (SRP-based for email/password, so your password is never sent in plaintext), row-level security (RLS) on our cloud database, and access controls on our cloud infrastructure (private VPC subnets for the database). However, no method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Push Notifications

If you grant push-notification permission, Apple's Push Notification service (APNs) issues a unique device token for your installation. We store this token in our database, keyed only to your GameHaven user id, so we can deliver in-app alerts when:

  • A friend sends you a friend request

  • Someone invites you to an online match or tournament

  • An opponent finishes their turn in an asynchronous score-based match and the result is ready

  • A tournament round you were assigned to is forfeited because the time limit expired

Device tokens are sent to Apple servers (per Apple's APNs operation) when notifications are delivered; we do not share them with any other third party. You can disable push notifications at any time in iOS Settings > Notifications > GameHaven, or by deleting your account (which removes the token from our database).

AI Content & Online Multiplayer Data

AI-Generated Content (Anthropic's Claude API)

Premium subscribers receive AI-generated trivia questions, crossword clues, and word-search lists via Anthropic's Claude API, which runs Anthropic's Claude Haiku 4.5 model on our behalf. The prompts we send describe the requested content type (e.g. "generate 10 trivia questions at medium difficulty") and do not include personally identifying information about you, your account, or your gameplay. Generated content is cached on your device after delivery, and a copy of the generated content itself — the questions, words, and clues only, never anything about you — is also stored in a shared content library on our AWS servers so the same content can be reused for all players without regenerating it. This shared library contains game content only and no personal information. Anthropic processes these prompts to generate the content and does not use them to train its models, consistent with Anthropic's commercial API terms.

Online Match Replay Data

When you play an online multiplayer match, the match row (host id, guest id, game type, display names, avatar emojis, scores, winner, timestamps, board state, and "content blob" for score games — i.e. the shared trivia questions / crossword grid / etc. that both players see) is stored on our AWS infrastructure for the duration of the match and a short period afterward for dispute resolution. Completed match rows are retained as part of your match history; you can delete your entire match history along with the rest of your account from Profile > Delete account and data.

Match Expiration & Auto-Forfeit

To prevent abandoned matches from cluttering the system, every online match has an expires_at timestamp — 24 hours for 1v1 matches, 6 hours for tournament-round matches. A server-side cleanup process running every few minutes marks expired unfinished matches as "abandoned" and, for tournament rounds, auto-forfeits the absent player so the bracket can advance. Expired matches remain in the database in the abandoned state and are subject to the same deletion controls as completed matches.

Friends

When you add a friend, we store the relationship as two rows in our database — one for each direction — linking your user id to theirs. Friend requests are stored with sender id, receiver id, and status (pending, accepted, declined). You can remove a friend at any time from the Friends tab, which deletes both directional rows. Each non-guest account is also assigned a unique player tag (a short auto-generated handle such as #AB12CD, shown on your profile) so players can be found without sharing personal details. Friend searches match an exact player tag (not a display name) against our profiles table for non-guest accounts; results are returned to you only and are not shared with the people being searched.

AI Display-Name Moderation

To keep the player community family-friendly, every display name you save to your profile passes through two filters. First, an on-device rule-based filter (no network) screens for obvious profanity, slurs, and impersonation patterns. If that passes, the name is sent to Anthropic's Claude API (Claude Haiku 4.5) for a context-aware second review against the same family-friendly standard. Claude returns approve / reject + a short reason. The proposed name is included in the prompt only for the purpose of this single check; we do not retain the proposed name on our servers beyond the duration of the request itself (request logs that capture the name are kept for at most one month for operational debugging, then deleted). AI moderation runs only for names that are about to be persisted to your profile — temporary local-match player names are checked only by the on-device filter.

AI Help Chat

The in-app Help Chat is powered by Anthropic's Claude API (Claude Haiku 4.5). Each message you send is forwarded to Claude together with the recent conversation history and a small device context blob (app version, iOS version, hardware model, premium / signed-in status — no personally identifying information, no account details). Claude returns an answer text and a topic tag drawn from a fixed list (e.g., "friends", "premium", "games"). We log ONLY the topic tag and a timestamp for weekly aggregate trend analysis — your message text, your name, and your account identifier are never written to our logs. The aggregate weekly report is delivered to the developer support email and is used solely to improve the app.

Anonymized Error Reporting

When the app encounters a non-fatal error (a network failure, a parse error, an unexpected state) it sends a small diagnostic report to our database. The report contains: a short engineer-facing error code, a one-line summary, app version + iOS version + hardware model, an optional structured-context object (HTTP status codes, retry counters, etc.), and an anonymized 16-character SHA-256 prefix of your account identifier. The full account identifier and any personal information are never sent. A weekly server-side process aggregates these reports and emails the developer a triage summary so bugs can be prioritized for the next App Store release. Per Apple's App Store guidelines, fixes are always delivered through the normal App Store review pipeline — we never push code changes to your device.

Remote Feature Flags

The app reads a small set of public configuration flags from our database at launch and every ten minutes. These flags can disable or parameterize features that already exist in the app binary (for example, temporarily hiding online multiplayer if it is misbehaving, or adjusting how often a match polls the server). The flags can never introduce new behavior — any new feature still ships through App Store review. No personal information is sent during the fetch.

Transactional Emails

We send a small set of transactional emails through Resend to the email address you registered with: a welcome message after sign-up; a feature tour after you start a Premium subscription (Apple sends the official receipt separately — ours is a tour, not a receipt); a reminder if your 7-day free trial is about to convert; a security alert if we detect a sign-in from a device we haven't seen before; a notification when another player sends you a friend request; and a confirmation when you delete your account. You can disable any of these categories from Profile → Notification Preferences, EXCEPT for the account-deletion confirmation and new-device-login alerts — those are required for legal record-keeping (GDPR, CCPA) and security and cannot be turned off. To support the new-device-login alert, when you sign in we record a small per-device fingerprint (Apple's identifierForVendor) together with a human-readable label (e.g. "iPhone15,2 · iOS 18.0") and timestamps. We keep one row per device you've signed in from on this account; you can see and reset this history by deleting your account. Email content is rendered from fixed templates; no personal information beyond your display name (and the friend's display name, for friend requests) is included. Apple Sign In users who chose "Hide My Email" receive messages through Apple's private-relay forwarder; Apple delivers them to your real address.
